Le Fourneau is a village lieu-dit situated in Gevrey-Chambertin, on well-draining limestone slopes that produce wines of notable depth and structure. The vineyard's position contributes to wines that express the earthier, more powerful character for which Gevrey-Chambertin is renowned — darker fruit, firmer tannins, and a savoury complexity that sets it apart from its neighbours to the south.
The 2018 vintage was a landmark vintage in Burgundy. A hot, sunny summer, balanced by good water reserves from spring rains, produced grapes of exceptional ripeness and concentration. The harvest began early under ideal conditions, yielding wines of wonderful fruit expression whilst retaining the appellation's characteristic structure and freshness. For Gevrey-Chambertin, the vintage delivered wines of rare generosity without sacrificing their signature backbone.
Producer: François Millet & Fils is a small, quality-focused domaine working with some of Burgundy's finest terroirs. Their approach in the vineyard and cellar is guided by respect for terroir — minimal intervention, careful viticulture, and vinification that allows each appellation to speak clearly. Le Fourneau is a fine expression of village-level Gevrey at its most complete.
